Fukukichi Uno observed that skilled craftsmen in Toyooka were keeping their know-how within their family and transmitted it through generations to perpetuate the tradition.

By combining different craftsmen skills and sourcing prime materials nationwide, Unofuku pioneered bags collections to suit most needs and feels.

And so was born Unofuku, Co. & Ltd. In 1921, gaining its reputation across Japan.

Yanagi.

The first Unofuku bags’ designs were made of a traditional willow called “Yanagi”.

These bags had the particularity to protect the contents away from humidity and bugs, making it the perfect recipient for clothes or even rice at a time when such storage was a necessity.

Ever since, Unofuku bags’ functions, designs and materials have been constantly adapted.

Representing the third generation, Unofuku President, Mr Takaya Uno, recalls the strong values of sincerity and trust that have built the company’s reputation.

Following his vision, Unofuku has adapted its communication and manufacturing strategy to expand internationally and locally.

Toyooka, our Head Office.

Our Head Office comprises of 2,000 sqm floor area, with 32 employees. Most of our craftsmen are located within Toyooka and such proximity has highly benefited to the quality of our bags.

Our environment has been eco-friendly for decades, with organic rice farming around us, as the municipality of Toyooka strives to protect storks. Observing them flying over town has become a pride, as well as a constant reminder to keep our environment protected.

Passion & tradition.

Tajima cattle and sakura wood.

Until now, Unofuku extensively uses traditional materials such as leathers of Tajima Cattles sourced within Kobe area and Hyogo Prefecture, and even the bags handle receive a special treatment using wood of “Sakura”, Japan’s cherry blossom.

Innovating.

Keeping a very close relationship with our customers has always been essential for us to continuously adapt our products to the needs and trends.

Since 1921, the experience we have accumulated has helped us enhance our method inspired from Kaizen (continuous improvement) to introduce new bags designs and new techniques to safeguard its contents.

Design.

Our integrated design committee keeps its requirements up-to-date for new products to be launched. It also collects data, identifies the trends to follow and appoints the best suited designers for the dedicated project.

Unofuku has registered over a hundred innovative designs and products.

Production.

With a constant focus on quality, our production committee reviews the design requirements, sources bespoke materials and selects the most qualified maker.

While most of our products are made in Japan, Unofuku established a Representative Office in Hong Kong since 1997 to closely monitor production lines created in China, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Marketing.

Sales & Marketing team defines the products strategy and submits the product to a pool of customers. In 2012, Unofuku launched a new showroom in Tokyo which hosts a Sales Team dedicated to be closer to our customers.

Quality.

Quality controls consist in accompanying in all three prior steps, ensuring smooth operations and of course, controlling the quality of the final product.

All operations are closely monitored from the company’s headquarters in Toyooka, the city that has historically ranked as Japan’s leading city in terms of bags production.
